Q: When and where do you shoot?
Our hours vary by season, due to available lighting. Sessions are typically between 11 AM and 6 PM, Monday through Saturday.
Headshot sessions take place at our Silverlake garage studio. (1 parking spot is available to scheduled clients.)
Editorial sessions are more often best performed on location. See our portfolio or inquire for details.
Q: What is included in my headshot package?
Every package includes the option of either 30 days of access to a password protected online proof gallery or a CD of high quality proofs (available within 24 hours), as well as a limited number of high-resolution retouches and 4×6 files optimized for casting websites.
Q: How long does a headshot session last?
This can be a difficult question to answer because it is often dependent on whether you are male or female, how many looks we shoot, and whether or not you need to do anything drastic to your look during your session (eg: hair, make-up, shaving, etc.). I work quickly, but plan to spend between 1 and 3 hours.
We are flexible and take care to make your session our greatest concern. We do not place a time restriction on your session and will not rush you in any way. If you have concerns regarding time, please let us know when you book your session or a few days before so that we can make every effort to properly accomodate you.
Q: How can I prepare for our session?
Pack multiple tops in different styles without designs or logos in a variety of colors – we recommend a few t-shirts, a tank top and overshirt, and a layering jacket or sport coat with a tie. Don’t forget a comfortable and sturdy pair of jeans, and whatever shoes make you most comfortable! We provide hanging space for your clothing choices, so avoid shoving them into a backpack, please!
Think about the type of marketing looks you need. What are the current and popular sitcoms, film and television stars, and buzz words? Girl next door, hipster casual, best friend, sports fan, office casual, and upscale professional, to name a few.
Most importantly: be clean and showered, and show up with your hair washed and styled with additional product and styling tools if necessary. (eg. hairbrush, curling iron, blowdryer, etc.) Arriving unprepared will delay the session, and can create unnecessary tension and frustration.
If you still have any questions or concerns, please review our portfolios for ideas and don’t hesitate to contact us prior to your session for a full wardrobe consultation.
Q: Can I bring friends/family/my own music?
If you believe it will help you to achieve the looks you need, we have no hesitations about you bringing along a friend or family member, provided one or two doesn’t turn into an entourage. We also have an iPod dock that can accommodate your iPhone or iPod, so bring it along as well!
Q: Do I need a hair and make-up artist?
We do highly recommend hiring a make-up artist and we have one of the best! Andrea Harrison has been a professional make-up artist since 2001 and in addition to doing make-up for television and film, has worked New York Fashion week bi-annually since 2004.
Q: When will my photos be ready?
If you have requested a CD, your images will be available for pick-up within 48 hours of your session either at the studio or at the photographer’s home. If you have requested online proofs, you can expect to receive your passwords within 48 hours of your session.
Your retouches will be available within 5 days of your request, except on Holidays or upon prior notice.
If we haven’t answered your question here, it is best to contact us.
